While the Murano glass industry, except for the biggest firms, is in serious crisis and the city is literally flooded with made-in-China junk, Murano’s beautiful Museum of Glass – which is part of the Venetian Civic Museums circuit and is definitely worth a visit in itself – offers an interesting retrospective on the “Arte Vetraria Muranese”, an important glassmaker throughout the twentieth century which helped to renew the glass aesthetic in a contemporary sense. More than ninety pieces of this manufacturer, from the collection H. Lutz Holz, will be on display until 31 January 2016.
