Not everyone knows that Maria Callas, one of the biggest myths in Opera history, became Maria Callas in Venice. It was at la Fenice that the singer, having to replace a sick soprano, learned in just five days his part in Verdi’s I Puritani, thus passing from Wagner to Italian Opera.
La Fenice pays tribute to Maria Callas with a permanent exhibition curated by Marianna Zannoni and located in the heart of the theater, a remarkable collection of stage stills, snapshots and private photos of La Divina‘s Venetian period.
